Homeowner Repair

What was once old is new again. Believing housing is an integral part of community enrichment, the MBCDC homeowner repair program provides rehabilitation and weatherization assistance to community residents earning less than 80% of the area median income, as well as senior citizens. Last year, the CDC successfully completed fifteen such projects, while the 2007 round of improvements is targeting twenty-one additional properties, via a partnership with INHP. Neighborhood homeowners interested in receiving assistance must complete and submit a preliminary application to the MBCDC office. Once the office housing specialist processes the application, and all requested material is validated and on file, the resident’s request is placed on a waiting list. In addition to MBCDC’s yearly scheduled homeowner rehab repairs, the CDC also conducts emergency rehab repairs throughout the year. Emergency repairs are also evaluated on a case-by-case basis and are completed within our organization’s budgetary ability to perform the repairs.

Weatherization

The Home Weatherization Assistance Program is designed to help low-income residents save fuel and money, while increasing the comfort of their homes. Although most dwellings typically waste energy in some form or another, different types of houses have different energy conservation problems. Depending on the circumstances and condition of your dwelling, our contractors may complete some or all of the following weatherization steps:

  • Sealing cracks with weather strip and caulk.
  • Insulating attics and walls.
  • Repairing windows and doors.
  • Replacing windows.
  • Repairing or replacing inefficient furnaces.
